Traffic regulations in Morocco

Dangerous motorcycle traffic and poorly enforced regulations

A biker must above all drive for himself and for others, vigilance, anticipation and calm are the key to avoiding accidents, excess or lack of confidence and fatigue can play tricks on us.

The majority of motorcycle accidents come from the lack of attention of motorists but also from the high speed of motorcycles and the nervousness of motorcyclists following a bad gesture from a motorist… (Try to intercept him to make him notice his bad maneuver, or to insult him, break his mirror…) Let’s keep control of ourselves and our motorcycle and let’s be an example The Morocco destination is very popular with bikers because of its geography and its landscapes, offering both trips to the foothills of the Atlas and escapades at the gates of the Sahara.

The motorcycle driving license of all countries is recognized by the Moroccan authorities, it is possible to drive there with it for a maximum of one year. Permit is required for rental The road network is quite good even on the secondary roads which are however quite narrow and where traffic is heavy. Despite everything, traffic in Morocco is quite risky because of the behavior of users who do not respect the rules of conduct or safety, especially in cities like Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech…
Added to this are the frequent crossings of people or animals, non-compliance with the highway code, rules of conduct such as blind spots, mirrors, safety lines and distances…
The horn will quickly become your best ally. Caution and vigilance will be required. Avoid riding at night. Your safety is our first priority.

Speed limits in Morocco

The speed is limited to 60 km/h in town and 40 km/h in the town centre. On the road, it is possible to drive up to 100 km/h and go up to 120 km/h on the highway. Radar checks are more and more frequent and leave no room for negotiation.
There are fixed speed cameras on all the main axes, see the link to the map of fixed speed cameras

Mobile radars can be everywhere, even in a small mountainous road at the exits and entrances of villages and small towns.
Note that speed camera tickets and fines are at your expense and will be deducted from you in the event of an infraction.
Pay attention to taxis and other users they are aware of speed camera places if you see them slowing down tell you that there are mobile or fixed speed cameras at the end, generally users flash their headlights to signal a roadblock or speed camera 👍

Alcohol and narcotics

As everywhere in the world Moroccan regulations are very simple concerning driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs since it is simply prohibited.
